Instructions for Using the PT-83 Calibration Verification Reference (CVR)

Your PT-83 Pin Meter Calibration Verification Reference (sold separately) allows you to verify two calibration points to determine if your meter requires recalibration. We offer two CVR models: one designed for low-humidity conditions with 7% and 12% reference points, and another designed for high-humidity conditions with 12% and 22% reference points. This gives you the flexibility to choose the CVR that best aligns with your typical measurement needs.

Getting Started

  1. Power on the PT-83 by pressing and releasing the On/Hold button.
  2. Press the Mode button until Mode 2 is displayed on the screen.
  3. Remove the pin protector cap if it’s still attached.

Important Application Note

For each calibration point (7%, 12%, or 22%):

  • One pin must make contact with the designated percentage contact point, and the other pin must make contact with the center circular contact on the CVR.
  • Then switch pin positions and repeat the process (each pin must touch the percentage contact and center contact once).
  • The reading should fall within the specified range during both tests.

How to Verify Each Calibration Point

7% Calibration Check

  • Touch one pin to the 7% contact, and the other pin to the center contact.
  • Reading should be between 6.9% and 7.1%.
  • Switch pin positions and repeat to confirm.

12% Calibration Check

  • Touch one pin to the 12% contact, and the other pin to the center contact.
  • Reading should be between 11.9% and 12.1%.
  • Switch pin positions and repeat to confirm.

22% Calibration Check

  • Touch one pin to the 22% contact, and the other pin to the center contact.
  • Reading should be between 21.9% and 22.1%.
  • Switch pin positions and repeat to confirm.

Tips for Accurate Readings

  • Ensure firm, direct contact between pins and contact points.
  • Keep your fingers clear of the pins during testing.
  • Avoid areas with high static, such as carpeted rooms or low-humidity environments.

Troubleshooting

If the reading is outside the specified range for any test:

  • Verify that both pins are making proper contact with the correct contact points.
  • Confirm the meter is in Mode 2.
  • Repeat the test using the pin-switch method.

If any reading remains outside the expected range after confirming proper technique and mode setting, your PT-83 may require recalibration. Please contact us at info@bessemeter.com to send in the unit for service.
